Cuban VP in El Salvador

EL SALVADOR, June 1, 2009. Thousands of Salvadorians, carrying flags of Cuba and the FMLN, gave here a warning welcome to Cuban Vicepresident Esteban Lazo, who presides over the island's delegation at the inauguration of El Salvador's new government.

People from several neighborhoods in this capital have crowded the airport since dawn, chanting for Cuba and holding posters in support of the Cuban Revolution with greetings to its leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro.

Among demonstrators were a group of scholarship holders studying in the Caribbean nation with their relatives and representatives from committees of solidarity with Cuba.

Lazo and his delegation expressed satisfaction for being in El Salvador, above all after the historic triumph of its people in the recent elections.

The Cuban representation was welcomed at the airport by the political commission of the Farabundo Marti Front for National Liberation (FMLN), led by its general coordinator Medardo Gonzalez, and the Republic's Vicepresident-Elect Salvador Sanchez Ceren.

The island's mission is comprised of Jose Arbesu, deputy head of the International Relations department at the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alejandro Gonzalez, Rogelio Sierra, and Ramiro Abreu.(Cubaminrex- PL)
