Fourth Cuba-Surinam Joint Commission Begins

CUBA, May 7, 2009. The fourth Cuba-Surinam Joint Commission will commence today in Havana, concluding on May 8.

The Surinam delegation is headed by Jane Aarland-Nanhu, Permanent Secretary with the vice chancellor of the university, Anton de Kom de Paramaribo, the director of Surinam National Archives and representatives from the Departments of Education, Health, Agriculture,
Social Affairs and the Institute of Teacher Training also in attendance.

The Cuban delegation is led by Orlando Requeijo Gual, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment.

Issues to be discussed in the sessions include new areas of co-operation between the two countries, archiving techniques, community development as well as existing sectors in health, teaching of the Spanish language, sport and agriculture.

A co-operation agreement between the Department of Public Health in Cuba and Suriname was signed in August 2007 and another was signed in July 2008 to offer ophthalmology services in Sland Hospital in the capital of Surinam. (Cubaminrex- RHC-ACN)
