SURINAME, November 30, 2009. The Third Scientific Workshop Suriname-Cuba took place in Paramaribo, at the offices of the Ministry of Public Health of Suriname. The Workshop was organized by the Cuban Medical Brigade, with the participation of health professionals from Cuba and Suriname. The participants gave eight presentations and eleven poster presentations on haemodialysis technique, pediatric morbidity and mortality, first aid and health promotion in some Surinamese communities, and ophthalmological surgeries done on Surinamese patients, among other topics. The Cuban participants exchanged their experiences with healthcare in Suriname. In his closing remarks the Surinamese Health Minister Dr. Celsius Waterberg stated that the Third Scientific Workshop, an initiative of the Cuban Medical Brigade, demonstrated the high quality of this kind of event and contributed to more scientific exchanges between health professionals from Cuba and Suriname. Also present in the workshop were the Cuban Ambassador to Suriname, Andrés González Garrido, the Second Secretary of the Cuban diplomatic mission, Maribel Duarte González, as well as officials from the Surinamese Health Ministry and some health professionals from Suriname.
