CUBA, October 20, 2009. Ecuador’s Vice President Lenin Moreno Garces said he was moved by the assistance provided in Cuba to disabled people, as he visited a special school for physically impaired children in Havana. The Ecuadorian vice president talked to the kids in the “Solidaridad con Panamá” school that has a roll of 103 children in the pre-school and primary education level. He told them he was very moved for being there, and that his country had a lot to learn from Cuba not only in solidarity matters but in other aspects including humane spirit. “You should be very happy for living in a country that cares so much for the disabled,” he told the children who made a cultural performance for the visitor. In statements to the press, Moreno said he always keeps in mind a quote by Fidel as saying that children come to the world with the right to happiness. He described as wonderful the Manuela Espejo Mission, led by the Ecuadorian vice presidency with the support of Cuba to register all people with physical limitations and provide them with treatment. “The greatest value of human beings is solidarity,” Moreno said before thanking the Cuban people and government for the help with the mission. The Ecuadorian vice president was received in the school by Ida Hilda Escalona del Toro, National President of the Cuban Association of Physical and Motor Impaired People (ACLIFIM), and by Esther La O Ochoa, director of the school.
