CUBA, October 17, 2009. Bolivia´s President Evo Morales called on the United States to lift the blockade against Cuba and to abide by the international community’s will when next October 28th the resolution project against the US hostile-Cuba policy gets the approval of the UN General Assembly. In his speech before the presidents and heads of state participating in the 7th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA), which opened its second and last session on Saturday, Morales urged US president Barack Obama to eliminate what he described as an aggression to the Cuban people. The debates this morning started with a report made by ALBA Political Council, a document that proves the need for this body to be more precise in meeting already approved tasks and in the drawing up of a communication strategy for ALBA member countries, among other aspects. Participants at the forum also listened to the report submitted by the ALBA Economic Council, which expresses its approval of aspects included in the Peoples´ Trade Treaty (TCP) and it outlines the principles that will rule trade relations among member countries. Complementation, solidarity, brotherhood; the respect for the weak ones and for Mother Earth, as well as the establishment of taxes adjusted to the needs of the developing countries, are among the principles outlined by the ALBA economic body. After Evo opened the session for the presidents, in his capacity of host, Venezuelan Hugo Chavez addressed aspects related to the current situation of ALBA, its birth and the region’s situation. The Venezuelan leader proposed the celebration of the fifth anniversary of ALBA in Havana with the participation of the heads of state of countries with the regional bloc. (Cubaminrex- ACN) |
