Cuban FM: Favorable Prospects for Cuban-Salvadorian Relations CUBA, December 6th, 2010.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez highlighted on Monday in El Salvador the good prospects that exist for the development of political, economic and commercial relations with that South American country. The topic was tackled by the FM –at the Parliament’s venue- during a meeting with the members of the Legislative Assembly’s Commission of International Relations, International Cooperation and Salvadorians Abroad, the Prensa Latina news agency reported. During the meeting, Rodriguez underlined the decision of Salvadorian President Mauricio Funes of re-establishing diplomatic relations with the island, which took place during one of his first governmental meetings after his inauguration as president on June 1st, 2009. The Foreign Minister highlighted that, over the last year, bilateral bonds have been intense, with the visits to Havana by Funes, Vice-president Salvador Sanchez Ceren, and FM Hugo Martinez; in addition to deputies and entrepreneurs. During the meeting, several deputies expressed their appreciation for Cuba’s solidarity with the Salvadorian people, particularly in the fields of health and education. Karina Sosa, deputy of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), thanked the island for its solidarity in these two sectors, as well as in the face of natural disasters. Likewise, the condemned the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba for almost 50 years now, and asserted that –in spite of the inhuman siege- Cubans have maintained their help to other nations in many fronts. Leonel Bucaro, president of the Commission for International Relations of the Central American Parliament, expressed his support of the struggle for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unfairly incarcerated in the United States for warning against violent actions hatched in that territory against the island,. Previously, Rodriguez paid posthumous tribute to the historic leader of the FMLN, Shafick Handal and to Monsignor Oscar Arnulfo Romero.
