Cuban Foreign Minister Concludes Visit to El Salvador CUBA, December 8th, 2010.- Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodriguez, concluded on Tuesday an official visit to El Salvador, where he met with the president, Mauricio Funes. The president gave a dinner last night because of the stay in San Salvador of Rodriguez, with whom he discussed various issues of bilateral interest, said a statement from the Ministry of Communications, reported Prensa Latina. Among the issues discussed at the meeting were add-ons to the various projects of cooperation between Cuba and El Salvador in health, education, trade, culture, among others. The text recalls the arrival of Foreign Minister Rodriguez occurred after the President conducted an official visit to Cuba on October 4 and 5, when both governments signed the first four projects of cooperation. According to the program, on Tuesday Rodriguez met with the national leadership of the Frente Farabundo Marti para la Liberacion Nacional (FMLN), the largest political force in the country. He also have a second meeting with his counterpart, Hugo Martinez, who yesterday held talks with officials at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry. The Minister also met yesterday with Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, head of the ministry of Education. Rodriguez's visit is the first by a head of Cuban diplomacy to El Salvador in the history of both nations. At a meeting in the Legislative Assembly, Rodriguez recalled that one of the first acts of Funes government after taking office on June 1, 2009, was the restoration of bilateral relations. He also stressed the good prospects for the development of political, economic and trade relations with El Salvador. On Monday he paid homage to the historical leader of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Schafick Handal, Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero and the more than 30,000 victims of repression during the armed conflict (1980-1992). The foreign minister also held meetings with members of the Salvadoran movement of solidarity with Cuba and members of his country's mission in the country. (Cubaminrex-Granma) |
