Photographic Exhibit on Cuban Diplomat Raul Roa Garcia Opens in Mexico CUBA, December 29, 2010.- A photographic exhibit on the work of Raul Roa Garcia (1907-1982), who served as Cuban Foreign Minister from 1959 to 1976, was inaugurated at the Cuban embassy in Mexico, on the occasion of the 51 anniversary of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX). Cuban ambassador to Mexico Manuel Aguilera de la Paz talked about Roa’s work as Foreign Minister and noted the validity of his teaching for the workers of that institution. Roa used to say that a revolutionary diplomat should be politically qualified, technically competitive, absolutely loyal, and tactful. He was the grandson of Col. Ramon Roa and went to Law School at the University of Havana. He became a member of the Students Revolutionary Movement led by Julio A. Mella since 1923, and stood up before the dictatorship of Gerardo Machado. Roa became a professor in 1927 at the Jose Marti Popular University, led at that time by Ruben Martinez Villena, and was also member of the Cuban Anti-imperialist League. He is the author of ‘Una semilla en un surco de fuego’, which later on became the prologue to the book ‘La pupila insomne’ (The Sleepless Pupil) (1936) by Ruben Martinez Villena. Raul Roa Garcia made the selection for the book ‘Pluma en ristre’ (1949), by Pablo de la Torriente Brau, as well as the compilation, the prologue and the notes for ‘Con la pluma y el machete’ (1950) by Ramon Roa.
