Cuba, US to Resume Migratory Talks

CUBA, Jan 28, 2010. - Cuba and the US will restart migratory talks on February 19 in this capital, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez announced Thursday.

In statements to local and foreign press, Rodriguez said that as part of the Cuban agenda for the meeting, the country proposed to negotiate a new migratory agreement and cooperate in the fight against people's smuggling.

The US government has not yet replied to the Cuban proposal, Rodriguez said. On the other hand, the minister ratified Cuba is willing to consider the release of people detained here for different crimes in return for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the US.

President Barack Obama, he added, has the faculties and moral obligation to set them free immediately, as a sign of justice and clear stance with regards to international terror.

Migratory laws in Cuba, just like the rest of regulations, are being constantly analyzed and improved, the minister said. (Cubaminrex - Prensa Latina)
