St Lucia’s PM Pays Tribute to Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti

CUBA, Jan 7, 2010. - Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Stephenson King paid tribute in this capital to Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti on Thursday.

The visiting head of state placed a wreath by the monument to Marti located at Revolution Square, accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.

Following this ceremony, King toured the Memorial named after Marti, where he received a detailed explanation on aspects of Cuban history and the National Hero who struggled for its independence.

King, who is also St. Lucia’s Minister for Finances, Affairs and Economic Planning and National Development, arrived on Wednesday to Havana on an official visit, at the invitation of Cuban President Raul Castro.

This is the second visit of Stephenson King to Cuba. The first one took place in December, 2008, heading a delegation from his country to the 3rd Cuba-CARICOM Summit.

His delegation includes the ministers for Education and Culture and Health, among others.

During his stay, Stephenson King will hold talks with the Cuban President, as part of his visiting agenda. (Cubaminrex - acn)
