Cuban Ambassador Bids Farewell to the Cuban Medical Brigade in Swaziland

SOUTH AFRICA, February 22nd, 2010. The Cuban Ambassador to Swaziland, Angel Villa, attended the farewell bid to members of the Cuban Medical Brigade that serves in that country, during his visit to the Kingdom.

In the event held at the Central Hospital in the Mankayane region, the Cuban doctors that ended their term of duty received the praise and words of gratitude of the management of the Hospital on behalf of the entire staff and the patients that benefited from their care during their time of service. Likewise, the authorities of the hospital acknowledged the contribution of the Cuban physicians to the efforts to raise the level of the health care to the population, and their direct input to the training and improvement of the qualification of the local medical personnel.

The Cuban Medical Brigade of 17 doctors, has been serving in Swaziland since October 2005, mainly in rural areas and its work in the health care of the Swazi population as well as its participation in the efforts to cope with the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, that has a very high incidence in the country, has been outstanding. The results achieved by the Brigade have been appreciated by the leadership of the Kingdom and the population, and they have been shown as example of a true South- South cooperation.
