Cuban assistance in teaching of the Spanish language continues successfully in Suriname


Suriname, February 8 2010. Cuban professors Vilma Páez Pérez and Noel Fernandez Gonzalez, continue to teach courses at the Advanced Teachers Training Institute (IOL) and provide technical assistance to its Spanish Language Department. Their work is part of the project for Cuban assistance to the teaching of the Spanish language at the IOL. This project started in November 2007 and its first phase will be completed in August 2010.

Vilma Páez Pérez and Noel Fernandez who are from the Oscar Lucero Moya University in Holguín, expressed to the Cuban Ambassador to Suriname, Andrés González Garrido, their satisfaction with the work done at the IOL. They are also pleased with the results obtained in the curriculum for teaching the Spanish language.

This first phase of the project includes some specialized courses, as well as training in Cuba for a group of teachers who took these courses. A visit to Cuba is planned for April this year and it is expected that the group will consist of 23 Surinamese teachers.

Cuba’s assistance to the IOL is part of the existing cooperation agreements between the two countries. (Cubaminrex - EmbaCuba Suriname)
