Raúl Castro Sees Off Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

CUBA, Feb 25, 2010. -  The Cuban President Raúl Castro saw off his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the José Martí International airport, who said was satisfied with the results of his working visit to Cuba.

Lula expressed his pleasure for his meeting with the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, whom he said he found in very good health, “thinking about the future of Cuba, Latin America and the Caribbean, and as might be expected, thinking about the world”.

Lula expressed satisfaction with the exchanges held with the Cuban President Raúl Castro, and the agreements signed yesterday between his country and the Caribbean nation.

After describing Cubans as “solidarity specialists” The Brazilian president stressed the readiness of his Government to be erected as the first ally of Cuba in terms of investments for development, and expressed his confidence in the potential Cuba has to develop.

We will not miss the time when discussing the most important projects for Cuba, in order to prepare it for the future, he said.

According to Juventud Rebelde newspaper, Lula, when referring to the agreements signed by both nations, cited those related to Petrobras, construction projects at the port of Mariel and soybean production. “Important agreements, he said, to contribute to the development of Cuba”.

Lula called the U.S. president Barack Obama to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, “Obama should have the same boldness that had the American people to elect him as president and lift the blockade against Cuba”, said Lula, according to ACN news agency.

Lula also noted the importance of his visit to Havana to deepen the solidarity of Brazil and Cuba as well as other Latin American countries, with Haiti, and announced that in his portfolio there is a proposal to this effect, which aims at helping rebuild the health system structure in the devastated Caribbean nation, JR reported.

He praised the Cuban solidarity, which he said is very important for Brazilians; and added that among all peoples of the world, “we know that the Cubans are probably the world leading specialists in solidarity, the more prepared and therefore we will build together whatever possible, to restore hope to the people of Haiti”.
