The heads of state and government from Latin America and the Caribbean, meeting at the Summit for Unity, express our strongest rejection of the coercive and unilateral economic measures applied for political reasons against sovereign nations, which affect the well-being of their peoples and are designed to prevent them from exercising their right to decide, on their free will, their own political, economic and social systems. In this regard, we reiterate our strongest rejection of the enforcement of laws and measures contrary to International Law like the Helms-Burton Act, and urge the government of the United States of America to put an end to its application. Consequently, we demand that, in fulfilment of successive resolutions approved by the UN General Assembly, the government of the United States of America put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade it maintains against Cuba, which is contrary to International Law, causes major and unjustifiable damage to the well-being of the Cuban people, and affects peace and coexistence between nations in the Americas.
