Cuban fine arts come to the historic Malacca City

MALASIA, 30th June 2010.- Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia, Carlos A. Amores, accompanied by Mr. Haji Khamis bin Haji Abas, General Manager of Malacca Museum, opened the Cuban contemporary art exhibition “Reflexions of Cuba”, in the Malacca Art Gallery, located  in the heart of the city’s historic center, which was declared world heritage by UNESCO almost one year ago.

The gallery, located in the famous Red Square of Malacca, welcomed the exhibition, which had been already showed with great success in the capital city of Malaysia and presented the works by the famous Cuban artists Nelson Domínguez and Angel Ramírez, together with some of the most recognized young painters of Cuba today, namely: William Hernández, Enrique Báster, Noel Guzman Bofill Rojas, Erik Olivera, Kelvin López, Hector Frank Heredia, Barbaro Reyes, Alejandro Sainz and Orlando Ignacio Fernandez Merida, Jose Antonio Oliva, Orestes Gaulhiac and Jose Angel Vincench.

Mr. Khamis thanked the Cuban Embassy in Malaysia for organizing this exhibition, which will contribute to a better understanding of Cuba in Malaysia and be a new attraction for many national and foreign tourists who visit the city every day. He also invited the guests to visit Casa Cuba in Melaka, a permanent gallery on Cuban art in Malacca, to enhance their vision on Cuban art and painting.

Ambassador Amores, on his side, expressed his gratitude to the gallery in the state of Malacca for hosting this exhibition, as well as to the curators Mrs. Vivian Companioni and Mrs. Suzette Rodríguez, and the artists in Cuba for sending this excellent showcase. He said this is part of the celebration program this year for the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Malaysia.

Cuba supported the Malaysian proposal at UNESCO to declare Malacca and Penang, the Malaysian cities in the Malacca Straits, UNESCO’s World Heritage. (Cubaminrex – Embacuba Malaysia)
