Dominican Republic against US Blockade of Cuba CUBA, July 22, 2010.- The Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic, Carlos Morales, stated on Thursday that his country is in favor of the US lifting its blockade against Cuba. Morales said Santo Domingo has always opposed Washington's hostility. He added that only Cuba is missing in the Cotonou Agreement, signed between the European Union (EU) and 78 former colonies in 2000. "We have always been consistent in with regard to the economic partnership agreement signed by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) with the EU, from which Cuba is excluded", said Morales referring to an eventual improvement in relations between Brussels and Havana. "We have always said that Havana is supposed to be there", explained Morales in a clear reference to the Cuba's exclusion because of the common stance approved by the 27-member EU at the request of former president of Spain Jose Maria Aznar. Havana refused to join the Cotonou agreement, considering that the policy of the megabloc towards it was discriminatory and violated its sovereignty.
