Cuban Ambassador’s official visit to Johor state
Malaysia, March 1st, 2010. - On February 23rd and 24th, Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia, Carlos Amores, made an official visit to the State of Johor, where he paid courtesy visits to the highest authorities in the State.
On Tuesday, Amores was received by the Sultan of Johor, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Ismail Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who was also accompanied by his wife, Her Royal Highness, and the Crown Prince.
Ambassador Amores personally conveyed to the Royal Family the deepest and heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Cuban people and Government upon the recent demise of the late Sultan of Johor, and took the opportunity also to wish a long and prosperous ruling to the new and energetic Sultan.
Later the same day, the Cuban Ambassador also paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister of State, Dato Hj Abdul Ghani bin Othman, with whom he explored and reviewed the potential areas where cooperation could be beneficial to both Johor and Cuba.
Upon an invitation from the Rotary Club of Johor, that night, the top Cuban diplomat to Malaysia delivered a speech on the current situation of Cuba and its foreign policy challenges, followed by a lively debate with more than 100 members of various Rotary Clubs from Johor.
Finally on Wednesday 25th, Ambassador Amores accompanied by the diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Cuba in Kuala Lumpur and their relatives, paid tribute to the first ever Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia and his wife, the late Mario Garcia Inchaustegui and Gladys Delgado, who perished on the plane crash of Tanjung Kupang, Johor, on December 4th 1977.
At the touching wreath laying ceremony, four Cuban children laid red roses on the Memorial in a symbolic representation of the grandchildren of Ambassador Garcia Inchaustegui and his wife.
Also present in the ceremony was Mr Frank Goon, Director of the KUOK BROTHERS GROUP, whose founder Tan Sri Robert Kuok befriended the late Ambassador Garcia Inchaustegui during his tenure. (Cubaminrex . EmbaCuba Malasia)
