Prime Minister of Granada Visiting Cuba CUBA, Feb 27th, 2010. - The Honorable Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Granada, will arrive in Cuba tomorrow, on an official visit, at the invitation of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba. During his stay, the distinguished visitor will hold official talks with Raúl and will carry out other scheduled activities. Biography of Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Granada The Honorable Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Granada, was born June 13, 1947. He is a lawyer by profession. In 1973 he graduated in Economy from Fordham University, New York, and in 1976 he received a Law Degree from the University of the West Indies, Digs Hill Campus, in Barbados. In 1978 he obtained another degree, this time in Legal Education, from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago. Also, in 1978, he was admitted to the College of Lawyers of Granada and started to practice law in his country. During this time he worked for the Caribbean Human Rights organizations and Legal Aid Association. Between November 1983 and August 1984 he acted as assistant advisort of the Crown, in the Ministry of Legal Affairs of the Government of Granada. On December 4, 1984, he was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives of the Granada Parliament for the New National Party (NNP), from which he separated in 1987. He is one of the founders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was designated a Senator on the victory of the NDC Party in 1994, occupying the position of Minister of Tourism. In October 2000, it was designated leader of the NDC and confirmed in that position in the Convention of January 2003. On November 27of that same year, he was again reelected as a Member of the Granada Parliament's House of Representatives, becoming leader of the opposition. When his party triumphed in the 2008 parliamentary elections, he assumed the leadership of the country, taking the oath on July 9, as Prime Minister of Granada.
