US Blockade against Cuba Condemned in Uruguay and Ireland CUBA, Mar 9, 2010. - Uruguay’s La Republica newspaper denounced and condemned Washington’s blockade against Cuba, and the same condemnation was expressed by the Irish Sinn Fein Party. The publication’s editorial points out that "the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba is an act of genocide, defined at the Convention against the Crime of Genocide, and a mass, flagrant and systematic violation of human rights." The newspaper also refers that a new escalation of defamation launched against the Caribbean nation presents mercenaries as patriots and agents paid by the United States in Cuban territory as dissidents. "Cuba’s conduct in the protection of people’s right to life is irreproachable, even by way of altruistic cooperation beyond its borders", highlights the text, which concludes with the following demand: "Stop the campaigns against the Cuban Revolution." For its part, in its annual conference, the Sinn Fein Party approved a motion of solidarity with Cuba, which demands the end of the blockade and expresses concern for the lack of progress in this matter on the part of Barack Obama’s administration.
