The Cuban Ambasador in Barbados met with Cuban experts who atended an event supported by the United Nations Fund for the Environment. (GEF). BARBADOS, November 10th, 2010.- Lissette Pérez, the Head of the Cuban Mission in Barbados, met with two Cuban experts of the CITMA International Collaboration Section, who atended here on the 8th and 9th the Meeting of the Circumscription of the Caribbean which is part of the United Nations Fund for the Environment (GEF). The experts Romy Montiel and Luis Gómez, expressed that the aim of this meeting, attended by 13 of the 16 countries members, was to harmonize regional positions with regard to the topics of the 39 Agenda of the GEF Council Annual Meeting will take place in Washington between the next 16th and 18th. According to the participants, Cuba exposed the dramatic and threaten situation the small insular states are facing in the six focal areas the GEF funge as coordinator of efforts, namely climate change, desertification, biodiversity, international waters, organic persistent pollutants and ozone. Cuba also did recommendations on the need to discuss thoroughly in the GEF Council meeting the current situation and the need to take urgent actions to advance in the way of its solution.
