Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart receives Ambassador of Cuba

BARBADOS, November 22, 2010.- In a cordial meeting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart welcomed the Cuban Ambassador in this Caribbean island, Lissette Pérez, at the Government Headquarters in Bay Street.

For about 30 minutes, both discussed several issues of common interest.

Stuart moved to the representative of the Cuban Revolution, the feeling of gratitude for the help of over 300 Barbadian citizens receiving the benefits of "Operación Milagro", reiterated the support of Barbados to Cuba in the fight against the US Blockade and the claim for the release of the Cuban Five, and expressed his government's decision to increase partnerships with the island, sample which is the recently opened in Havana the new embassy.

Perez moved to the Premier Stuart greetings from the leadership of the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people, thanked the support of Barbados on the above issues, in particular the struggle against  the US blockade and reiterated Cuba's willingness to maintain and enhance bilateral cooperation in all possible fields and shows the deep feeling of friendship between both peoples.

Note: Barbados maintains relations with Cuba since 1972, when together with Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana was among the first countries to reestablish diplomatic relations with de island after Cuba was expeled from OAS.
