Cuba and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations.
During the official ceremony held on Monday at the Cuban Postal Museum to cancel a commemorative stamp on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, Sung Chol reaffirmed the unconditional support of Pyongyang to the island’s main struggle against the US economic blockade and for the release of the Cuban Five. The stamp was designed by Ricardo Monnar, and, with a face value of 85 cents, it’s already into circulation. It reproduces a photograph of Fidel Castro and great Korean leader Kim Il Sung with their hands raised and united, taken during a visit of the Commander in Chief to that socialist nation in March, 1986. The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the cooperation of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the Ministry of Informatics and Communications (MIC) and the North Korean embassy, also served to corroborate the joint decision to continue working in the consolidation of the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between the two nations. Presiding over the ceremony for Cuba were Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita González; the vice-president of the ICAP, Alicia Corredera; and MIC Deputy Minister Silvia Munárriz. (Cubaminrex-Granma)
