The Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro Guevara delivered the second lecture of a program of three about different aspects of the Caribbean island’s development at the prestigious Center for International Studies Bandaranaike. In this occasion, the lecture’s theme was “The Cuban health system and 50 years of the Cuba- Sri Lanka relationship”, while the previous one had “The education system in Cuba and the standing of Cubans in facing the pressures of US and other western countries”. The initiative was coordinated by the Embassy of Cuba here and the well-known lawyer Mr. Gomin Dayasiri,, chairman of the BCIS Board of Studies and it was warmly received by the invitees in the two lectures. There were present students of postgraduate course, professors and members of the staff of BCIS. While talking about the success of the health system in Cuba, the ambassador highlighted that the achievement has been possible in spite of the blockade imposed on the island by US governments, which has caused economic damages amounting to more than 96 thousand million USD in 2009. Answering an inquiry the ambassador pointed out that Cuba has been able to avoid most of the subversion and terrorist action perpetrated by anti Cuban organizations from the US territory with the cover and undercover support of successive US administrations, thanks to the devoted action of persons like the Cuban Five. The Ambassador explained to the present the injustice perpetrated against the Five Cuban antiterrorist fighters that are close to completing twelve years of hard and unjust imprisonment.
