Cuba Celebrated Africa Day in South Africa SOUTH AFRICA, June 1st. , 2010. Africa Day was celebrated in Pretoria with the sponsorship of the South African Department of Arts and Culture, the Cuban Embassy, together with a broad representation of the African Diplomatic Corp accredited to South Africa under the name of Afro-Cuban Evening. At the opening of event the Cuban ambassador, Angel Villa, highlighted the importance of May 25 as the day when the entire world celebrates Africa because of its contribution to the birth and development of humanity. Particularly, on the case of Cuba the ambassador underlined the importance of Africa to the Cuban nationhood and the independence struggles, and he also ratified the commitment of the island to this continent to continue strengthening the brotherhood and the cooperation with this continent. The cultural evening was entertained by the well-known Nigerian band “Olufemi and the natives” and there were tasted Cuban and African traditional plates.(Cubaminrex- Embacuba Sudáfrica)
