Malawi Vice-President Receives Cuban Ambassador MALAWI, June 1st, 2010. The Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi, H.E. Joyce Hilda Banda, received the Cuban Ambassador to that country, Carmelina Ramirez Rodriguez, who paid a courtesy call on her. During the meeting the Ambassador gave an updated about the situation in Cuba and bilateral relations to the Vice-President. Vice-President Banda expressed her support to the Cuban process and highlighted her admiration to the Cuban Commander in Chief Fidel Castro. She also condemned the US embargo against Cuba which she emphasized as not making any sense and is an offence against the world which has rejected it several times at the United Nations General Assembly. The Vice-President praised the health and education system in Cuba and pointed them out as big achievements. She stated that it is incredible that Cuba has eradicated the illiteracy and 100 percent of its children go to school. She also highlighted how Cuba has eradicated some diseases, like malaria, which strongly affects the African continent killing thousands of people every year. During the meeting Vice-President Banda said there are various sectors of cooperation where Malawi and Cuba may work, as part of the fraternal relationship between both countries. The Cuban Ambassador, expressed her gratitude for the meeting and pointed out that it was an example of the excellent relations between both sister nations and appreciated the nice environment in which the meeting took place.(Cubaminrex- Embacuba Zambia)
