Cuban Sports Delegation Arrives in Jamaica to Attend Track & Field Meet
JAMAICA, April 16, 2011.- A Cuban sports delegation, made up of 9 athletes, 2 coaches and a physical therapist, arrived at the Kingston international airport last Friday, April 15, in the afternoon. The delegation was welcomed by the Embassy staff members, including Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez and Third Secretary, Yaima Gonzalez.
The Cuban team is visiting Jamaica, to take part, on April 16, in an important international athletics competition sponsored by the University of Technology. Apart from the respective Jamaican athletes, the attendance of athletes from the United States and Trinidad and Tobago it is also anticipated.
In his welcoming speech to the Cuban team, Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez, recalled them that Saturday, April 16 would be a historical day for Cubans since an important military parade and a people’s march would take place, while the 6th Congress of the PCC would be inaugurated within the framework of the 50th Anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Cuban Revolution and the victory of Bay of Bigs.
