Retinologist Violeta Rodríguez Concludes her Work in Saint Lucia


ST. LUCIA, 7 April 2011.-
After two months of intense work at the Ophthalmological Center operating in Saint Lucia; with collaboration from Cuba and a record of 317 patients examined; with diseases, infections and pathologies of the Retina and 106 Laser applications to treat these afflictions, Violeta Rodríguez, Head of the Retinology Service at the Pando Ferrer Hospital concludes her work on the island.  The medical attention for Retinal pathologies, a frequent problem among Saint Lucians; mainly resulting from complications of Diabetes, made the local population even more grateful for the help given by Cuba.  As a result of the high demand for her specialty, Cra. Violeta Rodríguez’s stay should have been extended but the commitment was established, that after the request and application from the Health Authorities, to guarantee the presence of this specialty again during the second half of the year.

The Ophthalmological Center was opened in 2009 in Saint Lucia, with the support of Cuba.  After two years in operation, the Center has been able to solve these problems through surgery; to 4466 patients. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Santa Lucia)
