This Honor Is A Confirmation That Imagination And Independence Go Hand In Hand

BARBADOS. APRIL 7, 2011. Rigoberto Lopez, the renowned Cuban film director, left opened with these words, the evening in which unveiled a stunning mural and a sculpture on the Haitian people and outstanding manager Tousant Louverture, as a result of the work of young Cuban plastic Kadir López.

"We all owe a great debt to the Haitian people, the author of the first colonial exploits of this continent. And this work product of a young Cuban artist is part of that tribute”, said Rigoberto, who is here not only for this date, but as a teacher giving a workshop on film along with other technicians and specialists from the island, called by the University of the West Indies.

In the event also attended by the Ambassador of Cuba Lissette Pérez, the outstanding intellectual George Lamming and diplomatic corps, Rigoberto enunciated the Kadir´s intention of capturing the mural a journey through the history of Haiti, its culture, their strength and their dreams.

In his remarks, Professor Gladstone Yearwood, Director Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, and seat of the mural, recognized the importance of this work, the bronze sculpture that accompanies it and the dedicated work of the artist and the curator Cuban Marilyn Sampera who ran with the care and understanding of this cooperative project to say Rigoberto Lopez is a sign of real integration of our peoples.
