Hugo Chavez to Travel to Cuba for Third Chemo Session. CUBA, August 21, 2011.- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez will travel to Cuba for a third chemotherapy session, as part of his cancer treatment. According to parliamentary sources, the Venezuelan Parliament convened an extraordinary session for Monday afternoon to consider the authorization for a new trip to Cuba of President Chavez, the Cubadebate Web site reported. On Friday, in the column he writes for the Correo del Orinoco newspaper, Chavez wrote that he could need another round of chemotherapy. “I took some tests early this morning. Everything was normal, thank God. That is, my body continues to react positively to the post-chemo treatment, getting ready for a possible new cycle,” he pointed out. The Venezuelan head of state returned to his country from Cuba on August 13, after his second chemo session and has said he might also need radiotherapy. Chavez received his first chemo treatment on the Caribbean island, after undergoing surgery in Havana to remove a carcinogenic tumor from his pelvic region. (Cubaminrex-ACN) |
