Deputy Primer Minister and foreign Minister sends message on the occasion of the Cuba –CARICOM Day
JAMAICA, December 9, 2011.- Last Wednesday, 8 December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica released a message sent by la Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Kenneth Baugh to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez in observance of the CARICOM-Cuba Day (please find attached unabridged text of the message)
The message expresses the deep appreciation for the 39 years of unwavering support and dedication extended by the Government and People of Cuba to the CARICOM member countries. It is also underscored that, amidst the current economic challenges, the region has realized significant achievements from Cuba’s invaluable assistance to the region and conveys the deep appreciation of the CARICOM for the kind and consistent support offered by the Government of Cuba over the years on several wide ranging cooperation programmes which have been provided at the bilateral and regional levels. The assistance Cuba continues to provide to Haiti is considered an “invaluable assistance”.
Likewise, the message of the Jamaican Foreign Minister states that the Fourth CARICOM-Cuba Summit Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago coincides with the 39th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the first four independent countries of CARICOM, namely, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. The text also highlights the unwavering support of the CARICOM for the removal of the economic blockade imposed by the United States of America (EE.UU) against Cuba. (Cubaminrex/Embacuba Jamaica)
