Held in Barbados Cuba/CARICOM Day

IMG_0713BARBADOS, December 15, 2011 .- In a ceremony at the "Barbados Community College", the main research center for the arts in this country, was held the anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the countries of CARICOM and Cuba.

With the presence of Robert "Bobby" Morris, Representative of Barbados to CARICOM, Professor Hilary Bleckles, Principal of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill  and the Cuban Ambassador Lissette Perez, also attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture Barbados Shirley Farnum, and Bobby Clarke David Commissiong and Movement "Clement Payne" and Esther Phillips, Head of the Division of Arts at the "Community College".

IMG_0754At the ceremony, Professor Phillips, launched the latest edition of the magazine "BIM: Arts for the XXI Century" recognized biannual magazine of thought is editor, who produced jointly by the Ministry of Culture and University and is dedicated this time to the imprint of culture pre and post revolutionary Cuba.

This edition, prepared especially for the International Book Fair of Havana 2012, has been under the coordination of its principal manager renowned Barbadian George Lamming intellectual and has the support of a large group of Cuban writers and artists.

IMG_0765In turn, the Cuban Ambassador, referred to the results of the recently completed Summit IV Cuba / CARICOM and listed the impressive figures of cooperation between the Caribbean bloc and Cuba since 1972.

Citing excerpts from the Declaration of Port of Spain as confirmation of common effort and commitment between Cuba and the Caribbean, the Ambassador said:
"Nothing can change the course of our common destiny, and that common future must be built for ourselves in the belief that a better world is possible and what is important is that we are determined to bequeath to our people."
