In Jamaica members of the Cuban State Mission lay flowers at the bust of the Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo Grajales

JAMAICA, December 7, 2011.-  Last Wednesday, 7 December, members of the staff of the Embassy of Cuba in Jamaica,  Cuban specialists and other members of the Cuban State Mission paid well-deserved tribute to Lieutenant General  Antonio Maceo Grajales in observance of the 115th anniversary of the heroic combat in which he fell fighting for the independence of Cuba.

This simple but motive function took place at the Heroes Circle located in the City of Kingston, an opportunity in which tribute was also paid to the Cuban internationalists who died in other lands. The attendees laid flowers at the bust of the Bronze Titan.
Speaking at the function, Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez pointed out that Antonio Maceo’s death was a hard blow for the Cubans and for Cuba’s freedom cause, but his memory and example have remained forever as a guide for the Cuban people in its struggle for the preservation of its independence and sovereignty attained in 1959. He also highlighted that on November 27, another anniversary of the passing of Mariana Grajales Coello, mother of Antonio Maceo, was marked.

In this patriotic function, the Cuban diplomat also urged the attendees to reiterate our condemnation against the unjust blockade imposed by the U.S. on Cuba and the solidarity with our Five Heroes antiterrorist fighters who are unjustly imprisoned in U.S. jails. In closing, Ambassador Gala Lopez availed himself of the opportunity to recall that this tribute was taking place on the eve of the Cuba-CARICOM Day commemoration.  (Cubaminrex/Embacuba Jamaica)
