Saint Lucians and Cubans joyously Celebrate Cuba – CARICOM Day

SAINT LUCIA, December 9th, 2011.-  The residence of the Cuban Ambassador in Saint Lucia was the scene Thursday night, December 8th of the cultural soirée to mark the celebration of Cuba – CARICOM Day.  This year is the 39th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cuba and the countries of CARICOM; a decision which at the time defied the policy of isolation imposed by the U.S.  The day was celebrated with particular jubilation on the small island in the Eastern Caribbean, to which conversations were echoed, which took place in nearby Trinidad, in order to hold the IV Cuba – CARICOM Summit.

The activity, which began with the National Anthem of both countries, had the honor of experiencing the performance from the outstanding Saint Lucian intellectual Kendell Hippolyte, who, among various poems which he wrote, recited the poem dedicated to Commander Fidel, for his 85th birthday.

The activity, organized by the Cuban Embassy, in coordination with the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba), counted on the presence on the Interim Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, Philip J. Pierre, as well as the Minister of Youth and Sports, Shawn Edwards. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, members of the Diplomatic Corps, a representation of Cuban collaborators on the island, members of the solidarity movement, Cuban residents, Saint Lucian graduates of Cuba, members of the local press, among others also participated.
