Bolivian Vice-president to Inaugurate Casa de las Americas Literature Award. CUBA, January 8th, 2011.- Bolivian Vice-President Alvaro Garcia Linera will inaugurate the 52 Casa de las Americas Literature Award on January 17 in Havana. Head of the Literary Research Department Jorge Fornet said that Garcia Linera is one of the most outstanding Latin American thinkers and has written anthological books as “La nación plebeya” (The plebeian nation) As a novelty in this award edition, Fornet announced the launching of the Studies Program of the American Original Cultures, that includes those of the US and Canadian aborigines. President of Casa de las Americas Roberto Fernandez Retamar said that this year’s Casa will be dedicated to the centennial of the Peruvian writer José María Arguedas´ birthday, whose novel “Yawar fiesta” is the visual inspiration of this edition. The programme will start on the 16 at five PM with a concert by the ancient music group Ars Longa and the San Jerónimo de La Habana College. As it is a tradition the award jury will travel to seaport city Cienfuegos on January 17th. There they will read the works in contest. They will also take part in the launching of the books that received the 2010 Awards at the Dionisio San Roman library. The jury’s verdict will be announced on January 27. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
