Cuban Ambassador attends funeral services of former Jamaican diplomat Benjamin Clare

JAMAICA, January 18, 2011.- Last Saturday, January 8, Cuban Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez, attended the funeral services arranged on the occasion of the passing of Benjamín Clare, first Jamaican Ambassador to Cuba (1975-1977).

The aforesaid funeral service, held in Lucea town, in the parish of Hanover, was attended by numerous persons, including members of the PNP and representatives of the Government of Jamaica. Former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Kenneth Baugh, PNP President, Portia Simpson Miller, the Cuban Ambassador, relatives and friends and other attendees, took the floor.

In his remarks, Ambasador Yuri Gala Lopez recalled that, during his tenure as Ambassador to Cuba, Benjamín Clare worked actively in favor of the strengthening of the bilateral relations. The Cuban Ambassador also conveyed condolence messages to the relatives and friends of the deceased Jamaican exdiplomat.

This function had media coverage in the leading Jamaican newspapaers.
