Cuban Foreign Minister Says Ties with Bolivia Are Strong

BOLIVIA, February 5TH, 2011.- - Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez after a two-day official visit to Bolivia, where he met with government officials and representatives of all sectors of the society, said that ties with Bolivia are strong.

Rodriguez was welcomed at the Quemado Palace by President Evo Morales, with whom he discussed bilateral and international issues.

At present, Cuba provides the services of health and education specialists but they have agreed to extend this cooperation to the field of sports.

Rodriguez and his Bolivian counterpart David Choquehuanca signed a joint declaration expressing Cuba’s support for Bolivia’s leadership in defense of Mother Earth and their united efforts for a fairer and inclusive world.

Cuba is supporting Bolivia in its legitimate demand for access to the sea and in defense of coca leaf chewing, as an ancient practice part of their cultural heritage.

Rodriguez joined Morales in ceremony celebrating of the 12th anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela.

Rodriguez’s visit comes a little over three months after the 4th Meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism, held in Havana in October 2010.
