Hugo Chavez: 12th Anniversary as President of Venezuela Celebrated in Havana. CUBA, February 2nd, 2011.-Several-hundred people took part in a walk this Wednesday morning to celebrate the 12th anniversary of Hugo Chavez presidency of Venezuela. Students and supporters from many Latin American countries assembled at 10am at the Casa de Las Americas in Havana and walked to the statue of Simon Bolivar where a wreath was laid with full military honours. Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute spoke about the importance of a united Latin America to fight against the on-going attempts by the US government to sabotage the development of a regional political and economic power such as the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas. A representative from the Venezuelan Embassy in Havana thanked Cuba and the Cuban people for the help and support that they have received from the very beginning of Chavez’s presidency. The 250 members from the South American Brigade who are here in Cuba in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution were also present at the event. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
