Outgoing Brazilian President Meets with Cuban Vice President Machado Ventura.

BRASIL,  January 1st, 2011.- Outgoing Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has met with José Ramón Machado Ventura, Cuba's First Vice President, who is leading the Cuban delegation to the inauguration of Lula's successor.

Prensa Latina news agency reports that the meeting took place Friday, shortly after the Cuban delegation arrived in Brasilia. Among the other members making up the delegation from Cuba to the inauguration in Brazil are Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Homero Acosta Alvarez, Secretary of the Council of State.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed issues of international importance and highlighted the excellent relations between Havana and Brasilia. Lula da Silva and Machado Ventura also talked about how to increase assistance to the people of Haiti, faced with a cholera epidemic that has already taken the lives of more than 3,000 Haitians.
