The Guatemalan Vice-president Visits Havana’s Latin American Medical School

CUBA, January 20th, 2011.- Rafael Espada, Vice-president of the Republic of Guatemala, visited Havana’s Latin American Medical School (ELAM) on Wednesday, where he spoke with students from his country and Cuban health authorities.

Espada thanked the island for the opportunity of training Guatemalan professionals of scientific quality and human sensitivity, who currently save lives in the humblest communities of his nation.

The dignitary pointed out that many people in the world prioritize wealth, but lack spiritual values, and said that this Cuban project is an example of humanism and solidarity.

In this regard, Dr. Juan Carrizo, rector of the ELAM, highlighted the presence of 502 Guatemalan students in that center, who have excellent academic results and discipline.

Carrizo added that over 8,500 health specialists, including 591 Guatemalans, have graduated from the ELAM during its 11 years of existence.

Espada arrived in Havana on Sunday, at the official invitation of the Cuban government.

During his stay, he will meet with top leaders to tackle topics of interest, like bilateral cooperation. (Cubaminriex-RHC)
