VP Esteban Lazo Receives Delegation of Salvadoran Ruling Party

CUBA, January 27th, 2011.- The vice president of the Cuban Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, met on Thursday morning in Havana with Medardo Gonzalez, General Secretary of the ruling political party of El Salvador, the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN).

Lazo —also member of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Cuba’s Communist Party (PCC)— and Gonzalez spoke about topics related to the development and strengthening of the historic and fraternal bonds between the two political organizations, the preparations for the Sixth Congress of the PCC and the ongoing process of discussion of the Draft Guidelines for the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution, as well as the current situation in El Salvador and the challenges both nations face amidst the current international crisis.

Earlier on Thursday, Gonzalez and his accompanying delegation were received by the president of the Cuban National Assembly (Parliament), Ricardo Alarcon, who briefed them on the struggle for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

The visiting delegation includes Norma Guevara and Jose Luis Merino, members of the Political Commission of the FMLN.

 Also present in the meeting were the vice director of the Department of Foreign Relations of the PCC’s Central Committee, Jorge Arias Diaz, and other PCC officials. (Cubaminrex - ACN)
