Cuba, Ecuador Sign Energy Agreements CUBA, July 23, 2011.- The minister of Electricity from Ecuador, Esteban Albornoz, and Cuban minister for Basic Industry, Tomas Benitez, signed three agreements relating to energy. Benitez emphasized the importance of the Energy Revolution program applied since 2005 that had a great impact in Cuba and other Latin American countries. The Ecuadorian minister emphasized the efforts of the Citizens Revolution led by President Rafael Correa to boost energy sovereignty in the South American nation. Albornoz said that ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America) established by Cuba and Venezuela in December 2004 is a key mechanism of cooperation. The Ecuadorian ambassador in Cuba Edgar Ponce affirmed that agreements such as those signed by Quito and Havana are possible because of the political will and commitments with real continental integration.
