Cuban VP in Lima to Attend Peru's Presidential Inauguration

CUBA, 27 July 2011.- First Vice President José Ramón Machado Ventura is leading the Cuban delegation that will attend the inauguration tomorrow of Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

The Cuban leader arrived in Lima Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and other officials.

During his speech yesterday in Ciego de Avila to commemorate July 26th, Machado Ventura said that Humala is leading a nationalist program with more equality in the distribution of wealth, and that Cuba wishes him success in his endeavor.

Last week, Humala paid a short visit to Cuba, where he met with leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and President Raúl Castro. Shortly before leaving Havana at the Jose Marti International Airport, Humala told reporters that he was pleased with his visit and only regretted that the trip was so short.

Ollanta Humala said that he and Raul Castro discussed bilateral relations and ways to combat illiteracy in Peru by using the Cuban teaching method Yo Si Puedo (Yes, I Can).

Peru is also interested in increasing exchange with Cuba in the areas of public health, education and sports, as well as strengthening economic and cultural relations. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
