CUBA, July 11, 2011.- Maria Isabel Rodriguez, Health Minister of El Salvador, expressed her appreciation for the contribution made by Cuban advisors to the wide-spread program supported by the Central American nation to universalize free, quality medical care for all its citizens. The Cuban Ministry website reported that the Salvadoran Minister addressed the subject during a meeting in which they assessed the work of Cuban professionals and officials along with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). As part of the Comprehensive Health Reform promoted by the government of Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes, the 20 Cuban specialists cooperate with a plan that began in 2010 in the poorest 74 municipalities and offers a wide network of primary health care services. Rodriguez pointed out that the program has developed faster than what was initially planned, and that it’s expected to cover the entire nation by 2014. She added that the health model currently developed in El Salvador is also the product of what Cuba has done and has given to the world, and said that the experience accumulated by the Caribbean island in health has made it possible for her country to take a step forward in this field.
