TRINIDAD-TOBAGO, July 3, 2011.- A seventy-seven member group of local artistes and cultural workers, led by Minister of the Arts and Multiculturalism, Winston Peters departed at dawn today to Santiago de Cuba to participate in the 31st Edition of the Caribbean Festival (Feast of Fire). Before his departure, the Minister pointed out that: "Festivals like this one provide a great opportunity to experience other cultures. For Trinidad and Tobago it is an occasion to showcase our multicultural heritage and promote some of this country’s finest art forms and artistes” said Minister Peters. “The principal objective of the Festival has always been the acknowledgement of the deep similarities among the popular cultural expressions and traditions of Caribbean peoples. The music, the dance helps us to communicate with each other and remind us that we have a lot in common as human beings.” The Trinidad and Tobago contingent will be one of 25 countries attending the festival. Steelpan, carnival traditions, East Indian dance and music, tassa, African drummers, and other aspects of our cultural expressions will be on show during the seven day event.
