Ollanta Humala Returns to Peru after Meeting with Fidel, Raul.

CUBA, July 19, 2011.- Ollanta Humala, president elect of the Republic of Peru, who was on an official visit to Cuba, left Havana after meeting with Commander in Chief Fidel Castro
and President Raul Castro.

Before his departure from the capital’s Jose Marti International Airport, Humala
highlighted that the meeting with the leader of the Cuban Revolution took place in a happy atmosphere and that the conversation dealt mainly with the current complicated situation in Latin America.

The distinguished Peruvian visitor also referred to the talks he held with Cuban President Raul Castro, which focused on relations between Cuba and Peru and the need to strengthen education in that country with the island’s Yes I Can educational program.

He underlined that this Cuban initiative has contributed to eradicate illiteracy in nations like Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Ecuador, something he wants to do in the country he will rule as of July 28.

The Peruvian president elect, who carried out  a work visit at the invitation of the Cuban head of state, condemned the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean island for over five decades now, and described the measure as a 21st century disgrace.

He also talked about the telephone conversation he held with the President of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, who is now in Cuba recovering from recent surgeries, saying that he’s recovering satisfactorily and that the Venezuelan leader is really looking forward to returning to Caracas.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez saw Humala off at the airport.

With this visit, the Peruvian president elect, who met on Monday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, concludes the tour he began after his electoral victory on June 5, and that included Venezuela, the United States, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Peru and Cuba maintain stable diplomatic relations since July 8, 1972.

A total of 59 Cuban health professionals are currently working in the South American nation, while 641 Peruvian youngsters have graduated in Cuba, 627 from university level and 14 from medium level. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
