Hugo Chavez Returns to Venezuela

CUBA, July 4, 2011.- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez returned early Monday morning to his country where he is going to complete his treatment and recovery process after undergoing two surgeries in Cuba.

Venezolana de Television showed pictures of Chavez’ arrival and welcome at the airport of Maiquetia and his leaving Havana where he was seen off by Cuban President Raul Castro Ruz, Prensa Latina reported.

Upon arriving in Maiquetia, Chavez said the flight and landing were perfect and that being in Havana and in Caracas was like being in the Big Countryland, that of Bolivar, and that of Jose Marti.

In a conversation with state-run Venezolana de Television, after the first images of Chavez arrival in the nation were aired, the Venezuelan president announced that he had summoned the people to gather in front of the presidential balcony.

The TV station showed pictures of Chavez when being welcomed at the airport of Maiquetia by Executive Vice President Elias Jaua, and Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, among other personalities.

In a telephone contact with Venezolana de Television, Jaua said the President arrived at about two in the morning and asked to address the people who was longing for his return.

Therefore, this afternoon, July 4, Chavez will talk to the Venezuelan people from the government’s headquarter, the Miraflores Palace, he said.

Jaua said after landing in the country, Chavez met with the members of his cabinet with whom he celebrated the performance of the Venezuelan football team at the America Cup which tied to zero with Brazil.

The vice president said he and Chavez reviewed the President’s agenda for this week and noted that we'll follow the medical treatment for his full recovery.

Jaua said the days following Chavez’s address to the Venezuelan people from Havana when he informed them about his health state, were very intense in terms of work and from the human point of view. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
