Venezuelan President Undergoes Successful Surgery in Cuba. HAVANA, June 11, 2011.- Venezuela's Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro has announced that President Hugo Chavez has undergone successful surgery in Cuba for a pelvic abscessalt. He said Chavez was in good health and that he would be returning to Caracas in just a few days. Maduro said the procedure on Venezuela's president was "immediate" in nature but successful and that Chavez was recovering with his family and should be able to return to Venezuela soon. Maduro’s statement was broadcast on Cuban National Television and on Venezolana de Television. Chavez injured his knee last month, prompting him to postpone his current trip to Brazil, Ecuador and Cuba. Maduro said the Cuba trip aggravated the condition that led to Friday's pelvic surgery in Havana. The Venezuelan leader has been in Cuba since Wednesday, where he met with President Raul Castro and Revolution Leader Fidel Castro. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
