UWI Cuban Movie Showcase Came to an End in Jamaica.
JAMAICA, March 21, 2011.- Last Friday, March 11, with the screening of the movie “The Fallen Gods”, came to an end the Cuban Movie Showcase which was held for five consecutive Fridays at the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus)
Minutes before the screening of the full-length movie, Mrs. Aracelis Anedu, President of the Association of Cubans Residing Abroad and Cuban Ambassador, Yuri Gala Lopez, took the floor. Both acknowledged the support given by the Caribbean and Latin American Center, UWI, and thanked all those persons who attended this Movie Showcase, which seeks to increase knowledge that exists in Jamaica about the Cuban cinematography.
This last screening was attended by students and professors of the aforementioned university, Cubans residing in this country, and members of our State Mission. It is worth mentioning, the presence of Mrs. Annette Insanaly, Director of the Latin American-Caribbean Centre, University of the West Indies, Mrs. Tanya Batson, Cultural Director in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Jamaica, as well as the Heads of Missions of the Embassies of Nicaragua, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, among other members of the Diplomatic Corps
This Cuban Movie Showcase was an initiative put forward by the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica, with the support of UWI’s Latin-American-Caribbean Centre and the Embassy of Cuba. The Cuban Movie Showcase depicted four different issues with a vision and different ways to make movie, which received the cheers and the recognition of the attendees due to the quality of the works shown.
