Brazilian Governor Meets With Cuban Ambassador to Express Support

The governor of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos, met with the Cuban ambassador to Brazil, Carlos Zamora, and expressed his solidarity and support of the Cuban Revolution. According to Prensa Latina news agency, during the meeting Campos, who is also the president of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), send his regards to the highest Cuban authorities and mentioned his willingness to strengthen bilateral links between these two nations Campos also talked about a project for establishing bonds among Cuban and Brazilian harbors, boosting tourism, expanding commerce, promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation in the fields of health and education.

The Brazilian governor also noted the eagerness of his people to welcome the Olympic Cuban delegation for its final preparation stages in Pernambuco before travelling to Rio de Janeiro, the venue of the Olympic Games in 2016. Prensa Latina also informed that Zamora took part in an act of solidarity with Cuba and met with authorities from the Federal University and members of the Jose Marti Study Group from that institution. In statements to the local press, the Cuban diplomat condemned the US economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed against Cuba for more than 50 years, which he affirmed was and illegal and genocide policy.

A large delegation from the state of Pernambuco participated in the 30th Festival of the Caribbean, in the eastern Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba, last July. On that occasion, Brazilians exhibited part of their autochthonous culture, and Brazilian intellectual Nilton Pereira received the International Casa del Caribe Award.
