Cuba exposes management experience to deal with early warning of dangerous weather events.

BARBADOS. May 16, 2011.- Between 9 and 13 of May, was held in the capital of Barbados, the "Workshop on quality management systems in meteorological services”, organized by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), and with the additional sponsorship of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the meteorological services of France, Finland and Canada.

In the event, involving representatives from 16 Caribbean countries, Cuba was present with Dr. José Rubiera and Dr. Luciano Amaro, Directors of the National Centre for Forecasts and Basic Systems respectively, of the Institute of Meteorology of our country.

In a meeting held with Lissette Perez, Cuban Ambassador, the expert Luciano Amaro said the workshop is part of a larger project of the Organization of Caribbean States which joined forces to tackle the ever more frequent and more damaging "dangerous weather events " within which are hurricanes, cyclones, heavy rains, coastal flooding and severe local storms, all with strong impact on small island countries, reinforcing the idea and the commitment to be prepared for address them.

For his part, Dr. Rubiera, who is also Vice Chairman of the Hurricanes Committee for the region of the World Meteorological Organization, said  in the conclave, which cataloged a lot of interest, Cuba presented its experience and work in the quality control services early warning of such phenomena and showed, which was recognized by the present, the way in which our country is becoming one of the few in the world to manage these services with high quality and finally putting paid to the preservation of the lives and property of our population.
